The Face as a Reflection of the Whole Body

How Traditional Chinese Medicine Is Influencing My Skincare Philosophy

Over the last few years, I’ve been studying.
While continuing to build my skincare brand, I’ve been spending time with Traditional Chinese Medicine, Gua Sha, facial diagnostics, and face yoga. These are traditions that have quietly influenced me for a long time.

They all share one simple idea.
The face reflects the whole body.

It holds circulation.
Tension.
Emotion.
Patterns.
It shows us where we are balanced and where we are not.

The more I learn, the more I see that our skin is not separate from our nervous system. It is not separate from our digestion, our sleep, our stress. It is part of us.
That may sound obvious.
But when you begin to study it deeply, it changes how you look at everything.

A Philosophy I Always Felt, Now Understand Differently

You may have noticed I’ve been sharing more Gua Sha and face yoga recently.
Since moving to Thailand, I’ve had the space to go deeper.
To study beyond techniques. To understand the systems behind them.

For many years I’ve said that beauty reflects the inner world. I believed it instinctively. Now I understand it in a much more embodied way.
In much of the beauty industry, skin is treated as something separate.
Something to fix. Something to correct.
But when you look at the face through Traditional Chinese Medicine, you see something else entirely.

You see circulation patterns.
You see nervous system responses.
You see areas that hold emotion or tension.
You begin to see connection instead of problems.
And that changes how you approach care.

A Deepening

This season has been one of the most meaningful of my life.
I have always loved beauty. Formulation. Botanicals. Ritual.
That foundation is not going anywhere. But this feels deeper.

It influences how I formulate.
How I teach.
How I touch the face.

It reminds me that skincare is so much for than topical. It's relational as well.

Thailand has been quieter. Slower. That space has allowed me to return to the roots of why I started this work in the first place.

This is not a departure from Lina Hanson.

If anything, it feels like coming closer to it.
Closer to the essence.

And in many ways, it feels like the beginning of something new.

If you’re curious to explore this with me in a deeper way, you can begin with the face massage, face yoga and Gua Sha practices I’ve been sharing, or with the face oil that has always been at the heart of this philosophy.
